About

Every Mill Finds Its Next Owner

SawmillBusiness.com exists because the wood industry has a succession problem and no market to solve it. Roughly 2,042 hardwood sawmills and 34,702 lumber and building material dealers operate in the United States. Normal small-business churn puts 1,877 to 3,004 ownership transitions in motion every year — and only 30% of family businesses survive to the second generation. Most of those owners have no plan, no comps, and no market.

What we do

Three things, in order of importance. First, we aggregate: every public sawmill and lumber yard listing we can find, in one feed, free. Second, we benchmark: the only public comp table in the industry, so an owner in Michigan and a buyer in Georgia can price from the same numbers. Third, we connect: a buyer registry of qualified money matched against listings and off-market operations from our network.

Who is behind it

The Woodpreneur network — hundreds of interviews with sawmill owners, lumber dealers, and wood business operators, and the audience that grew around them. We are part of BuilderGrowth LLC. We know this industry from the inside: what a head rig costs, why kiln capacity is the margin line, and why the succession conversation is the hardest one an owner ever has.

How we make money

Plainly: paid listings and featured placement, valuation reports, and succession advisory. We publish the comp table free because a market needs a benchmark more than it needs another paywall. Before any success-fee work, we register as required or co-broker with a registered broker — the compliance line is in writing on the sell page.
